Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) interviewed Hunter Biden’s former business partner Tony Bobulinski Oct. 23. Bobulinski’s interview with federal investigators meant that his scheduled appearance before two Senate committees on that day was postponed.
In a statement released the same day, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs confirmed that the FBI asked the former Biden business partner to sit for an interview and provide his mobile phones as evidence. Despite the postponement of his interview with lawmakers, Bobulinski has agreed to testify before the Senate at a later time.
Johnson, who chairs the committee, said that he was glad the FBI was finally “taking an interest” in the upper legislative house’s investigations ongoing for months now. He added: “I expect that Mr. Bobulinski will speak … as soon as possible and fully share his insights into the Biden family’s business dealings.”
Bobulinski released a stash of documents related to the Biden family’s deals – including dozens of WhatsApp messages, emails, letters and business proposals. These documents are separate from the ones discovered in Hunter Biden’s laptop, which federal law enforcement seized in December 2019. The former Navy lieutenant also provided copies of his documents to Johnson’s committee.
Bobulinski spoke to members of the press during a surprise press conference Oct. 23 in Nashville, Tennessee, saying that he would be handing over three phones to the FBI. He disproved Joe Biden’s earlier claim that he had not spoken to his son about his “overseas business dealings.” Bobulinski said: “I have heard Joe say that he has never discussed business with Hunter. That is false. I have first-hand knowledge about this because I directly dealt with the Biden family.”
He recounted one instance: “On May 2, 2017, I was introduced to Joe by Jim Biden [Joe’s brother] and Hunter Biden. [During] my approximately hour-long meeting with Joe that night, we discussed the Bidens’ history and the Biden family’s business plans with the Chinese, with which he was plainly familiar.” (Related: A look back at the Biden family’s China business ties.)
Bobulinski remarked that both Joe and Hunter did not want to be explicitly linked to the family’s business deals. “On numerous occasions, it was made clear to me that [the elder] Biden’s involvement was not to be mentioned in writing – but only face-to-face. In fact, I was advised … that Hunter and Jim Biden were paranoid about keeping Joe’s involvement secret,” he said.
Back in 2019, the former vice president said, “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” and called for President Donald Trump to be investigated. The elder Biden made the remark in light of discussions that time between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky about Hunter Biden’s deals involving Ukrainian gas company Burisma.
Bobulinski was included in the recipients of a May 13, 2017 email detailing a business deal between Hunter Biden and a Chinese company. A day before he testified to the FBI, he elaborated on this email released by the New York Post and revealed the identities of the personalities mentioned in it.
The Chinese emails mentioned a “provisional agreement” in which of shares for a new company would be divided among six people. Bobulinski, Hunter Biden, business consultant James Gilliar and business associate Rob Walker would receive 20 percent of profits. A personality with the initials “JB” would receive ten percent, while “the big guy” would also receive 10 percent of shares to be safeguarded by Hunter.
“The reference to ‘the big guy’ in the much-publicized email is, in fact, a reference to Joe Biden. The other ‘JB’ is Jim Biden, Joe’s brother. Hunter Biden called his dad ‘the big guy’ or ‘my chairman’ and frequently referenced asking him for his sign-off or advice on various potential deals that we were discussing,” Bobulinski said. The younger Biden and Gilliar brought Bobulinski on board Sinohawk Holdings, a partnership between Chinese businessman Ye Jianming and the Biden family, to serve as its CEO.
From the initial emails released by the Post to Tony Bobulinski’s documents, the full extent of Joe and Hunter Biden’s illicit deals are starting to come to light.
